404 errors are a constant across all sites – whether you’ve added a broken link, removed a page, or typed a URL incorrectly, it’s not uncommon for us to come across these error pages.
A good error page (is there such a thing?!) will keep users on the site, and as such, need to be designed accordingly. They serve as a great opportunity to insert a little personality into your site, and have a little fun with it… So why are they so often overlooked?
We’ve put together a few of our favourite 404 pages for inspiration:
ModCloth

We love this – from the copy to the subtle nudge to continue shopping. Modcloth nailed it!
Github

Star Wars and writing code go hand-in-hand. We don’t want to generalise (if we did, it would be ok, because we’re developers too!), but this is perfect for it’s audience.
Grant Burke

Simple, yet effective. We love this one! A great way to showcase your skills without it being too in-your-face.
Lego

Is there anything Lego can’t do? Simple and product-oriented – the perfect combination.
AirBnB

Animation is a great way to spice up an error page, and AirBnB have nailed it.
Spotify

We saved the best for list – this play on words is everything we could ever dream of. THANKYOU Spotify.
